There are about 3,700 private detective agencies in China, with more than 20,000 employees. Most private detective agencies are named "investigation companies", "affairs investigation centers", "office investigation offices", etc. Main business: business anti-counterfeiting, tracing services, marriage investigations, child behavior guardianship, debt collection, whereabouts investigations, credit investigations, intellectual property investigations, as well as anti-counterfeiting rights protection, economic intelligence investigations, etc.
As a profession, "private detective" has not yet been recognized by our country government. In 1993, the Ministry of Public Security issued a notice prohibiting any unit or individual from opening various forms of private investigation institutes such as civil affairs investigation offices and security affairs investigation offices.
Since the 90s, the market demand for private detectives has been expanding, and the private detective industry has also developed rapidly. However, due to the lack of necessary thresholds and effective supervision, the composition of the industry personnel is chaotic, which in turn hinders the healthy development of the private detective industry.
